Luminar Neo. What makes it so powerful?

If you haven’t already heard, Skylum have announced there newest photo-editing software Luminar Neo, that’s set to launch in the next few months.

Being a Luminar AI user and fan, Luminar Neo has really got me excited for so many reasons.

So, let’s take a look at a couple of those reasons.

Brand-new engine

The Skylum Team have taken our opinions as creatives into consideration. They’ve listened to our feedback about speed and performance and decided that for Luminar Neo they would rebuild the engine to make it more powerful and flexible than in all there previous apps, optimised for our success in achieving complex creative tasks. To do that, they collected all the experience and knowledge of the Skylum Team and focused on the task at hand.

The new engine under the hood of Luminar Neo has been designed to be faster and optimised processes, providing maximum performance and flexibility for an unprecedented experience. The engine is based on unique technologies developed by Skylum and works on a module-based system, which means that different parts of the application can now be optimised separately for the best results. Thanks to the independent modular engine, Luminar Neo will be updated more frequently.

Luminar Neo also has a more flexible editing process, which means less memory is required to edit photos. The new engine performs a lot of small background memory use optimisations, increasing the speed of all processes. In Luminar Neo, you can smoothly apply multiple tools to an image while using less memory; achieve complex layering of several raw images; and upload, apply effects, and export faster! That’s a game changer in its self.

The goal behind Luminar Neo, and especially behind the new engine, is to provide you with an image editor that fulfils your creative vision without making you worry about the technical side of editing. Unlike other complexed photo-editing software programs. Focus on WHAT you want to achieve, and and Neo’s smarts we’ll provide the HOW.

Mask AI

A feature of Luminar Neo that Skylum are ecstatic to share with us creatives, is Mask AI, an AI-based masking technology like no other. It will be available for most tools in Luminar Neo that offer a masking feature, together with the Paint, Brush, and Radial masking you’re already familiar with in Luminar AI.

Thanks to Mask AI, it will be much easier to select an area of your image that you wish to edit. Instead of spending hours manually masking or refining details, you can just click on what you wish to select in your image — the sky, a person, some trees, some buildings, the road, the mountains, or another element that the AI is able to recognise — and the Mask AI will find it and mask it automatically, leaving only the enjoyment of creative editing to you.

Moreover, you can invert a mask and fill the rest of the image, which means saving even more time in your editing. Of course, you can always refine your selection with the other types of manual masking options, leaving you in full control of the result.

I know I’m excited about, and will love using the Mask AI. It will remove the tedious aspect of editing, save time, and will allow for more creativity in my editing workflow. What’s not to love?
